Introduction to Computers

What you'll learn

In this first level, children will discover what a computer really is and why people use it every day at home, school, and work. They will get to know the main parts of a computer like the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU, and understand what each part does. Children will also learn how to turn a computer on and off safely, practice simple typing and mouse skills to build confidence, and explore basic drawing and writing using beginner tools like Paint and WordPad. Along the way, they’ll start to understand important safety habits and why it’s important to use computers responsibly and kindly.

Description

Introduction to Computers helps young learners take their very first steps into the digital world. Through playful, hands-on lessons, children discover what a computer is, explore its main parts and their functions, and learn the safe way to turn devices on and off. They will also practice basic typing and mouse skills, experiment with drawing and writing tools, and begin to understand simple rules for using technology responsibly. By the end of the course, students will feel comfortable and curious around computers, ready to learn more in the next levels.

Intended Audience Description

This course is intended for Nigerian children aged 8–9 years, especially those in primary school classes who may have little or no prior exposure to computers. It is designed to be inclusive of learners from both urban and rural communities, using clear language, visuals, and activities that make digital literacy approachable and engaging at an early stage.
